40 Day Fast

As mentioned yesterday, I am on a 40 day liquid fast. I know what you are probably thinking, what in the world are you thinking? Why are you fast? And why 40 days? That’s a long time to go without eating solid food. Well, let me briefly explain.

img_2982My twin sister Linda shared a link with me sometime early last year of a video by Dr. Kellie E Lane where she talked about fasting and how God was moving in not only her life but also members of the Warrior Nation. It resonated with me. If I recall correctly, they had just finish a 40 day fast. As I watched the video, it was amazing listening to this woman of God pray online and teach the word of God. What’s more, many of the viewers (believers) come together and share the videos on Facebook and Instagram. They chime in, give testimonies, and help spread the word of the Lord by sharing the videos.

I will admit, I did not jump on the bandwagon at first. No, not yet… I am a Christian. I love God. I love learning about Him as well as fellowshipping with other believers. However, I wanted to make sure this thang was legit!

Remember that video that Linda shared with me? Well, Kellie shared bits of her testimony.  It was interesting learning about her journey to having more than 200K followers. I remember her talking specifically about the day of small beginnings. I heard other pastors preach on small beginnings in the past, but not quite like her.

“Do not despise these small beginnings, for the Lord rejoices to see the work begin, to see the plumb line in Zerubbabel’s hand.” Zechariah 4:10 (NLT)

You know, if you ever started a new business, blog, or e-store online, unless you are a superstar (well known, famous) or garner enough support from others, your start is small. Your followers may be even smaller.  In short, Kellie shared how taking a leap of faith led her to praying on a video, sharing it online, and one day God breathed on it. Her videos went viral!

God has truly blessed the Warrior Nation. Not only is it growing by leaps and bounds, Warrior Apparel is on fire! I was fortunate to receive an I AM Healed t-shirt, I Believe in Miracles t-shirt and sweater, as well as an I Am Woman t-shirt.  Get this…. I was surprised for Christmas with an I Believe in Miracles blanket. And I love it!

Oh… back to my story. Every now and then, I looked at videos that would show up in my feed. One thing I like most about Kellie’s teaching and praying style is that she keeps it real. She doesn’t transform into some personality, act strange or change voices, she stays herself. What you see, is what you get with Dr. Lane. She’s transparent. I like that… I like people who are genuine. Real.

Eventually, I decided to follow the group and tune in, instead of looking forward to the videos showing up after one of my friends share it on their page. Yeah, a few of my Facebook friends were already Warriors too. Now I look to see what the topic is and if time permits, I watch, listen, and learn.

After learning that Linda participated in the 40 day liquid fast last year. I told her I was going to do it the next time. Hmmm… I know what you are thinking.

“Are you serious? The most you’ve ever gone without eating solid food is a week, Gwen.”

I know. It will be okay. Remember, I believe in Miracles! It’s gonna surely take a miracle to stay out the kitchen…. Ha. Ha.

Why a 40 Day Fast?

I am fasting because I need God to move not only in my life but also in the lives of people I hold dear. The past few years have been hard. img_3054I don’t want to sound cliche, but the Struggle is Real. Anyone who has dealt with (or facing) any type hardship, chronic illness, disabilities, unemployment, underemployment, know what I mean. Still, we look to the hills from which comes our help, because we know without a shadow of doubt it comes from the Lord.

“The goal of fasting is to draw nearer to God. Biblical fasting always has to do with eliminating distractions for a spiritual purpose; it hits the reset button of our soul and renews us from the inside out. It also enables us to celebrate the goodness and mercy of God and prepares our hearts for all the good things God desires to bring into our lives. Remember, your personal fast should present a level of challenge, but it is very important to know your body, your options, and, most importantly, to seek God in prayer and follow what the Holy Spirit leads you to do.”

Last November, I went on a liquid fast for a week with @KellieELane the Warrior Nation right before Thanksgiving. It wasn’t so bad. The first day was the hardest. The rest was a challenge. I had a few cravings, but I managed. I did it!

I started feeling much better while on the liquid fast. No solid food, only water, juice, soup and an occasional smoothie. My mind was clearer. I was able to get more work done. Besides, after hearing countless inspiring testimonies from Kellie and the Warriors about how God moved in their lives after the last 40 day fast, I would be a fool not to do it. I don’t know about anyone else, but I need a breakthrough, right now. Once I make up my mind about something like this, I’m all in!

So, who’s hungry for God? Do you want to get closer to Him? Do you need him to move in your life? I love to hear your thoughts on fasting. Oh, BTW… should you decide to join us on this amazing journey, let us know. I will keep you posted on my progress as well.

To learn more about Warrior Nation, tune in around 6AM on Facebook. If you would like to participate in the fast, but can not do an all liquid fast, check out the types of fasts below. Be sure to choose one that presents a challenge for you.

TYPES OF FASTS

COMPLETE FAST

In this type of fast, you drink only liquids, typically water with light juices as an option.

SELECTIVE FAST

This type of fast involves removing certain elements from your diet. One example of a selective fast is the Daniel Fast, during which you remove meat, sweets, and bread from your diet and consume water and juice for fluids and fruits and vegetables for food.

PARTIAL FAST

This fast is sometimes called the “Jewish Fast” and involves abstaining from eating any type of food in the morning and afternoon. This can either correlate to specific times of the day, such as 6:00 am to 3:00 pm, or from sunup to sundown.

SOUL FAST

This fast is a great option if you do not have much experience fasting food, have health issues that prevent you from fasting food, or if you wish to refocus certain areas of your life that are out of balance. For example, you might choose to stop using social media or watching television for the duration of the fast and then carefully bring that element back into your life in healthy doses at the conclusion of the fast.
