Never ever will I publicly admit it, that I love the start of a new work week. Okay… You got me. Some people hate Mondays for a number of reasons, but I don’t. Yes, it’s hard to get out of bed after a long weekend. It’s a busy day for most of us. Hey, I like being busy. Being busy is better than any alternative(s) that I can think of right now. I bet the political buffs and volunteers are really feeling it too, because the Iowa Caucuses are tonight. Will all their hard work pay off? Who will win? Who will lose?
As of right now, the race is clear on the Republican side. Trump is number two to Cruz. Rubio is third. Who could of called that one? Trump’s already softening his tone. I suppose a slice of humble pie tastes pretty great. Remember, he said that nobody remembers number two. Not to mention, his brand is all about winning. I can’t wait to see the memes.
It’s not a good night for the establishment. Why Democrats? I hate when elections are a tie or too close. Clinton and Sanders are literally neck in neck but O’Malley is out of his league. Although it’s a very close race, Clinton knows… She Got This! The come up is so real though for her main opponent. It’s like Sanders came out of nowhere to prove that he is relevant especially considering the fact that the majority in the media claimed that she was the one to beat from the jump.
As an HR professional, you never know who or what you will have to entertain. Community affairs including both public relations and governmental affairs come with the territory. You have to know who’s who and keep up with what is going on especially in your local community. In my last HR role, that was essential. My boss said this all the time. We worked with both sides of the fence too. Several elected officials and community activist visited the plant. HR represents the organization in many aspects (we’re often the face of the organization). Working in community affairs with oversight and guidance from corporate was awesome. Remember “all politics” are local. Legislative affairs are a vital part of HR. When it comes down to the wire, you never know what your actual involvement will be from day to day. It will cross party lines…
I must admit, I really looked forward to this “Monday” because I care about the election. It matters to me not only personally, but professionally. It is not about being entertained (by Trump) or making history (electing the first woman president). For me, it’s about being heard. Being represented by the right candidates. I am proud to say that I am a registered voter, because what happens matters to me. You see, I love doing meaningful work that adds value to the business and makes a difference in people’s lives.
Hit me up in the comments, I would love to hear about your Monday. Until next time… GwendolynHR.
